Tainan Park Celebrates Its Centennial with the Revival of a Classic Japanese-Style Waterfall

Tainan Park, opened during the Japanese colonial period, is the oldest and largest park in Tainan City, covering over 40,000 pyeong. At that time, it also served as a tropical experimental forest, accompanying Tainan citizens through a century of history. Though many things have changed, the scenery remains. The municipal government has specially prepared a series of celebration events for this regenerated park rich in cultural and historical value.

Among them, the highly anticipated Japanese-style landscape waterfall has been restored with the help of Japanese expert Mr. Yasuo Kitayama. After a century, the waterfall is no longer identical to its original form, but the bluestones at the base are all over a hundred years old. The revitalized park has grown (and lives) together with people. The significance of the water flow on June 15 is to encourage visitors to walk in with their hearts, cherish and protect it—after 30 years, the waterfall will become even more beautiful.

To allow visitors to celebrate alongside this centennial park while also exploring nearby attractions such as the 321 Art Lane, Tainan Cultural and Creative Industries Park, and the upcoming cotton blossom-lined Dongfeng Road… among other sites, the tourism bureau has specially collaborated with travel agencies and hotel operators to launch the “Tainan Park Centennial Celebration Discount Package.” This includes one-day and two-day tour packages that combine Tainan attractions, local snacks, and unique alleyways.
