You don’t have to go to Taitung to see the Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree and an urban sea of rice fields

The Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree on Beilang Boulevard in Chishang — a tall Formosan alder tree standing amid vast, majestic rice paddies — became famous thanks to an EVA Air commercial, but such scenery can also be seen in Taichung. Located beside the Zhongchang Highway in Nantun District, Taichung, besides the spectacular rice fields, there is also a century-old banyan tree. Known as the Taichung version of the Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree, it has also been dubbed by netizens as Taichung’s Little Beilang Boulevard. Recently, the lush green rice paddies here have begun to turn golden, resembling a beautiful hidden gem in the city, and this field and sea of rice have been designated within the urban planning zone to preserve this rural landscape.
