Stinky tofu and spicy snacks are everywhere, but some people pour their heart into it quietly. This is a spicy stinky tofu shop we recently stumbled upon. It doesn’t have an official name, but students from Wenzao call her “Auntie Stinky Tofu.” Having run a snack stall on Dingzhong Street for years, she’s become a rather unique figure in the Wenzao commercial area thanks to word of mouth among students.

Every small business owner has their own principles and motivations. Auntie runs her business with conscience and holds high standards for what she serves. Though she has no formal culinary training, her passion led her to learn how to simmer spicy broth from a master. Because she believes in her food, she boldly claims it’s delicious.

On our first visit here, Auntie was indeed as legendary—quite the character. We were worried that my husband would annoy her by taking so long to order, but fortunately, everything went smoothly, and we found a seat and waited for our food.

The rules here are simple: after ordering, you go back to your seat and wait. Auntie will call you when your food is ready. You pick up your own order from the front, and you’re also responsible for clearing your table and putting the dishes in the sink outside.

The whole place is very basic, with minimal decor. It’s an open dining space with electric fans for ventilation.

As for what’s on the menu, just look up at the price list above. They serve spicy stinky tofu, spicy duck blood, spicy noodles, dry spicy noodles, and cold noodles. My husband deliberated for a while before finally ordering the spicy combo and cold noodles.

Spicy Combo – NT$90 (large bowl)

The spicy broth, simmered for 8 hours with 19 kinds of natural herbs, actually shows up in a street food joint. It makes sense that Auntie insists you try the soup first. The numbing aroma of Sichuan peppercorn hits your tongue instantly. We only ordered mild spice, yet the aftertaste was so strong that Shadow couldn’t handle it—my husband had to step in. He loves the layered flavors of this spicy broth, which unfold subtly and leave you wanting more.

Both the duck blood and tofu are incredibly flavorful, having been cooked to perfection.

Cold Noodles – NT$60 (large bowl)We’re big fans of cold noodles and have always been on the hunt for ones that suit our taste. These cold noodles are made differently from others. Most places use peanut powder, but Auntie uses whole peanuts, adding a nice crunch and fragrance. Remember to lift and mix the noodles and sauce well before eating. The noodles here aren’t your typical variety—they’re buckwheat noodles, slightly thicker and softer in texture. The cucumber is crisp and refreshing, and the sweet-sour balance is just right. There’s also a bit of chili oil, making it an overall favorite for us.

Auntie may be a character, but her commitment to doing things right isn’t a bad thing—in fact, it’s become the shop’s signature trait. We imagine most who’ve eaten here would agree with her approach. We’re happy to have discovered another great spot for cold noodles and spicy stinky tofu. Friends passing through, don’t miss out—come try a bowl of this thoughtfully prepared spicy broth. Highly recommended.
