Variable weather this week with frequent afternoon thunderstorms; beware of UV damage

From July 12 to 16, there will be localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon in the western half, northeastern regions, and other mountainous areas. During the weekend (days 15–16), apart from Hualien and Taitung, all regions of Taiwan have a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Travelers are advised to carry rain gear just in case. With hot weather and high temperatures across Taiwan, be especially mindful of UV exposure—all areas are at red level (8–10), indicating excessive UV levels, where sunburn can occur within 20 minutes of exposure. Avoid direct sunlight between 10 AM and 2 PM. Kaohsiung, Penghu, Pingtung, Taitung, and even other areas may reach purple level (above 11), considered a dangerous UV risk. Take extra precautions to avoid sunburn and heatstroke, and stay well hydrated.
