Typhoon Nesat prompts island-wide weather alerts, work and school suspensions advised
Last updated 2026-09-28 — Tropical Storm Nesat, a mild typhoon, was upgraded to a land typhoon alert by the Central Weather Bureau at 14:30 on the 28th. The storm's circulation has entered the Bashi Channel, situated to the south-southeast of Hualien over the sea, and is moving closer to the eastern half of Taiwan. The typhoon is expected to slightly intensify, with the potential for the storm circulation to expand further. Residents in Hualien, Taitung (including Orchid Island and Green Island), Kaohsiung, Pingtung (including Hengchun Peninsula), Tainan, Chiayi, and Nantou regions should remain on high alert and prepare for strong winds and heavy rainfall.

The public art exhibition “When Danhai Light Rail Meets Jimmy Liao,” held inside the Taipei Metro Hongshulin Station, has suspended its planned weekend gift-giving photo activities for July 29 and 30.
The “Sports i Taiwan” water activity — Western-style rowing event on July 29 has been canceled, while the “Sports i Taiwan” water activity — fun competition for water rescue skills has been postponed to September 2.
The 106th Annual Weekend Arts Show “Traveling New Taipei with the Art Train,” originally scheduled for July 29, has been canceled.

The Grandparents’ Day flash mob event on July 29 may be postponed if the county government announces work or school suspensions; the new date will be announced separately.

Baxianshan Forest Recreation Area, Wuling Forest Recreation Area, Lihpao Land, Dongshi Forest Farm Recreation Area, the hiking trails No. 1–10 of Dakeng, Xintian Hiking Trail, the Flower Beam Steel Bridge, Plum Iron Bridge, Tunnel No. 9 on the Dongfeng Bicycle Path, and Gaomei Wetlands will all be closed or not open to the public on July 30.

On July 30, four parks—Deyuanpi Dutch Village, Hulu Pi Nature Ecological Park, Aizhuangyuan (Shuangchun Coastal Recreation Area), and Zhenzhen Moon World Ecology Park—will be closed all day.

Due to Typhoon Nesat, Dongshi Fishing Harbor, Budai Yacht Harbor, and the Skywalk at Zhushan Park in Chiayi are temporarily closed and entry is prohibited.
The Chiayi County Environmental Protection Bureau had planned to hold the “Chiayi Low-Carbon Countryside Market” event on July 29 (Saturday), but due to the issuance of a sea typhoon warning by the Central Weather Bureau, the market event has been canceled this month for safety reasons.
