1. Zhuo Ye Cottage
 
Extremely distinctive Zhuo Ye Cottage is tucked away quietly in the mountains of Sanyi, Miaoli. The property includes homestays, a restaurant, and afternoon tea, and the whole area is free to enter. One of its most unique offerings is the indigo dyeing experience activity, where visitors can create their own one-of-a-kind dyed works. A highly recommended place to visit.

When talking about Tongxiao, most people only think of the beach. But actually, there’s a hidden shrine here. Tongxiao Shrine is located in Hutou Mountain Park, Miaoli, built during the late Japanese colonial period. After renovation, it retains a full set of Japanese shrine architectural features, including a torii gate, shrine office, approach path, worship hall, and more. It’s a quiet little spot with a strong Japanese atmosphere.

3. Tai’an Bamboo Grove Secret Spot
 
When people think of bamboo trails, the first thing that often comes to mind is the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto. But Taiwan has its own version too—it’s the bamboo grove secret spot in Tai’an Township, Miaoli, nestled in the mountainous region below the Wugayen Camping Area, and it doesn’t have a specific address. The bamboo tunnel is densely packed with tall, lush bamboo. Sunlight streams through the tall bamboo leaves, creating a view just as spectacular and beautiful as that of Kyoto’s Arashiyama.

4. Zhuolan Grand Canyon

Zhuolan Grand Canyon is actually located at the border between Zhuolan Township in Miaoli County and Dongshi District in Taichung City. It’s also known as the 921 Earthquake Grand Canyon. After the earthquake, the riverbed split into two sides, leaving exposed rocks that are unusually spectacular. When visiting this grand canyon to admire its magnificent landscape, be mindful of your footing—avoid going after heavy rain for safety reasons.
