In the dry environment of an airplane, everyone knows to stay hydrated, but exactly how much water you should drink is less clear. A travel website has now compiled advice from doctors and travel health authorities to serve as a helpful guide for passengers.
1. If you’re on a long-haul flight...
The Aerospace Medical Association recommends drinking about 250cc of water per hour. On long flights, passengers need to be especially mindful of this, as going three or four hours without water can lead to dehydration.
2. If you’re drinking heavily
Drinking too much alcohol can dehydrate you. If you have a glass of red wine, it’s best to drink a 250cc glass of water to balance out the alcohol.
3. If you’re going to a high-altitude area
High-altitude destinations can also gradually deplete your body’s water, so drinking around 1500cc of water per day should suffice.
4. If you’re on a newer plane
Newer planes generally have higher humidity levels (typically around 10–20% in most planes, compared to about 25% on newer ones), but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to hydrate. Whenever a flight attendant walks by with a water pitcher, it’s a good idea to take a sip.
