Typhoon No. 12, Rumbia (international name: BANYAN), formed on August 11 and has taken a northerly track, currently located at 22.5°N, 163.5°E, posing no threat to Taiwan. It is forecast that at 8:00 AM on the 15th, the typhoon's center will be at 26°N, 162°E, approximately 880 kilometers northwest of Wake Island and also some distance from Japan, so those traveling to Japan in the near future need not be overly concerned.

August 14 to August 20: Hot and sunny weather across Taiwan. (Photo / Central Weather Bureau)

The whole of Taiwan will experience high temperatures, especially in the Greater Taipei area where the mercury may soar past 37°C. Most parts of Taiwan, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, will see mostly sunny and hot weather, with brief, localized thunderstorms in mountainous areas in the afternoon. A high-pressure system will linger south of the Ryukyu Islands, and under the influence of southerly winds, average wind speeds in the northern seas of Taiwan are expected to increase to force 6, with gusts up to force 8. Boaters should exercise caution. The weather will remain mostly hot and sunny from this week through the weekend. Be sure to take sun protection measures and stay hydrated to avoid heatstroke and sunburn when going out.
