A major power outage occurred across Taiwan around 5:00 PM. According to statistics from the Ministry of the Interior's National Fire Agency, 17 counties and cities in Taiwan experienced power outages. The cause is currently known only to be the tripping of six generators at the Taichung Power Plant's Tatan facility, with the detailed reasons still pending confirmation by Taipower. Taipower is handling the situation urgently and power is being gradually restored. High-speed rail, Taiwan Railways, and the MRT were not affected, and passengers can travel with peace of mind. Traffic lights in urban areas that were impacted require extra caution and safety when driving or walking.
