Soak in Hot Springs for Free: Top 5 Free Hot Spring Spots Across Taiwan

Soaking in hot springs in winter is one of the most beloved travel activities for locals. Aside from paying to visit hot spring resorts or bathhouses, free public hot spring pools are also well worth a visit. Here’s a list of five areas across Taiwan that offer free hot springs, including foot baths and bathing pools. Each of these hot springs features naturally precious spring water that not only warms the body but also allows you to enjoy historical sites and scenic views.

1. Beitou – Fuxing Park Foot Bath Pool
Located near Xinbeitou MRT Station, Fuxing Park is designed to integrate with the local natural landscape. Its main structure features an open-air corridor design that enhances the interaction between the foot bath pool and other park facilities. While soaking your feet, you can also enjoy views of Datun Mountain. The hot spring water comes from the Geothermal Valley spring system and is one of only two high-quality hot springs in Asia (the other being Tamagawa Hot Spring in Akita Prefecture, Japan), commonly known as “blue sulfur.”

2. New Taipei – Jinbaoli Public Hot Spring Bathhouse

Located on the northern side of the Datun Volcano Group, the Jinshan District is rich in hot spring resources, offering four types of hot springs: submarine hot springs, sulfur springs, carbonated springs, and iron springs. Among the area’s public bathhouses, the Sulfur Harbor Community Public Bathhouse and the Jinbaoli Public Bathhouse are the most popular. In addition to hot spring bathing, the Sulfur Harbor Community Public Bathhouse also has nearby pavilions for resting. It’s also a popular filming spot for many celebrities, idol dramas, series, and weather reports.

For visitors who aren’t comfortable with mixed-gender public bathing, there are also outdoor foot baths available—perfect for families and groups of friends to sit together, soak their feet in the warm water, chat, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Jinshan.

3. Taoyuan – Luofu Atayal Story Park

The first hot spring well in Taoyuan was successfully drilled in the Luofu area of Fuxing, making it the first “beauty hot spring” in the city. Three foot bath pools have been set up at the Atayal Story Park to offer visitors a new winter travel option and a chance to enjoy a warm foot soak. Additionally, on January 13th, the Luofu Hot Spring Food Festival will be held at the story park. The event will feature performances by the Original Forest Art Dance Troupe and local amateur singer-songwriters, along with indigenous food stalls around the venue and DIY craft experiences such as jewelry making.
