Japan’s avant-garde contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama’s first official museum in the world opened in October in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district. The “Yayoi Kusama Museum,” located at her former studio, sits in Bentencho, Shinjuku. In addition to showcasing a large number of her representative works, the museum will also feature interactive experience installations, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the captivating world of her polka-dot creations.

The area where the “Yayoi Kusama Museum” is located has a rich artistic atmosphere. Its pure white exterior walls and large floor-to-ceiling windows stand prominently amidst the surrounding brown and gray educational and cultural buildings. The museum’s first floor houses the lobby and a themed merchandise area, while the second and third floors are dedicated to Yayoi Kusama’s exhibitions. The fourth floor features her “Infinity Mirror Rooms,” and the fifth floor serves as a reading space that also archives related materials and documents on Kusama’s work and creative legacy. Additionally, the Yayoi Kusama Museum also includes an outdoor area.
