The beautiful riverside scenery of Liuchuan can also be enjoyed here — Zhonggang Drainage Channel, a new IG hotspot

The Liuchuan riverside in Taichung has become a recent popular attraction, transforming from a once heavily polluted and foul-smelling ditch into a new photo spot in Taichung. In addition to Liuchuan, there is also a spot in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City, that resembles a New Taipei version of Liuchuan — the Zhonggang Drainage Channel. As the main drainage channel in northern Xinzhuang, it features four themed zones: Green Life, Wind in Motion, Water’s Love, and Dance of Light. In addition to its enchanting nighttime glow, the Rainbow Plaza has recently become a popular IG photography spot.

The main section of Zhonggang Drainage Channel is approximately 2,600 meters long and serves as the primary drainage route in northern Xinzhuang. In the past, its polluted waters were pitch black and emitted a foul stench, leading to numerous environmental issues. After undergoing phased remediation efforts — including dredging and sewage treatment — the channel’s surrounding landscapes were beautified, successfully creating a “Cheonggyecheon of Greater Taipei.”

The accessibility design of Zhonggang Drainage Channel is quite well-implemented, making it convenient for wheelchair users to access. The walkway floors feature varied designs, with stone pathways occasionally interspersed with wooden boardwalks, adding an extra touch of charm.
