The Universiade mascot, Brownie the Bear, has actually been around for a while, but its popularity exploded during the event. In recent days, fans have been paying close attention to what Brownie will do next. Its Facebook page (Brownie Bravo) has repeatedly posted “unemployment notices,” which not only sparked discussions but also garnered widespread responses from netizens. Most people believe it would be most appropriate for Brownie to become the official mascot of Taipei City. Indeed, Brownie originated from the creative ideas of the Taipei City Tourism and Communications Bureau team, and over the past year, it has been heavily involved in promoting various Taipei attractions and events, building up strong public appeal.

On Facebook, Brownie shared its life on the third day of unemployment, visiting the Japan-Star Foundry—the only lead-type printing shop in Taiwan—where it interacted playfully with owner Mr. Chang Chieh-kuann and learned about typecasting. This also triggered a strong online response and quickly amplified the visibility of the attraction.

Brownie also posted about going to an employment service center to look for a job. In addition to promoting tourism, this also served to highlight municipal services and government initiatives. It drew a response from Taipei City Labor Bureau Director Lai Hsiang-ling in the comments, adding humor and drawing more attention.
