When autumn arrives, Japan gradually turns crimson with red leaves. In addition to admiring the stunning maple scenery, you certainly shouldn’t miss the beauty of golden ginkgo trees. Below is the ginkgo frontline forecast released by the Japan Meteorological Agency. Based on last year’s frontline estimates and the fact that temperatures across Japan this year have generally been higher than usual and autumn has arrived later, it is predicted that Hokkaido will turn yellow later than last year, while the Tohoku region through Kyushu will see similar timings as last year.

In Hokkaido, the leaves start turning yellow as early as the end of September. Tokyo’s famous ginkgo viewing spot, “Meiji Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue,” begins to turn yellow around mid-October, with the most beautiful period expected in mid- to late November. In the Kansai region, the most iconic “Osaka Castle Park” can be enjoyed around early November.
