Feeling too full from all the roast chicken and scallion pancakes? I’d previously heard about a hidden gem of a beef noodle shop called ‘Super Beef B,’ and there’s a reason netizens call it hidden—its owner only sells noodles on Saturdays and Sundays, and doesn’t even open until the afternoon. With a limit of just 50 bowls per day, they close once they’re sold out, so you can easily miss out if you come too late. This time in Yilan, I had to try this beef noodle shop and see what makes it so special.

The shop is run as a small food stall, set up right next to the busiest street in Jiaoxi. It’s located right across from the 7-11 next to the Jiaoxi Farmers’ Association. If you drive there like I did, you’ll have to park along the nearby roadside. Dine-in customers can walk into the small shop to eat, and right behind the shop is an old-fashioned traditional Chinese medicine store. As we walked over, an elderly couple immediately came out to greet our family.

Since we arrived a bit late, all the indoor seating was already taken, so we could only wait in line with a number. Perhaps seeing that my family felt awkward standing on the roadside, someone brought out tables and chairs from inside the shop for us to wait by the roadside.

It turns out this beef noodle shop is really quite famous, mostly frequented by locals who come to buy takeout. What’s particularly unique is that they only sell two types of beef noodles (beef noodles and tendon-beef noodles), with absolutely no other dishes or side items available.

I noticed two people were preparing the food—one was busy cooking the noodles, while another was in the back portioning out the beef soup and toppings. There was also an older couple greeting customers. Right when the shop opened, there was already a long line of customers waiting to eat, making the place very bustling.

The noodles used here are white noodles, pre-cooked and prepared in individual servings. All that’s needed is to add the beef broth and meat slices before serving.

Beef Noodles – $160
This bowl of beef noodles looks very simple—just large slices of beef accompanied by a clear broth, topped with a generous amount of chopped scallions that practically cover the entire bowl.

The beef slices are made from beef shank, which has a certain thickness and chewy texture. The tendon part has been stewed until completely soft, with a gelatin-like mouthfeel that’s completely different from what I’ve had before.

The broth is simmered for a long time by the owner and developed using health-focused principles. It combines beef bones and offal, along with natural fruits and vegetables for flavoring—all natural ingredients bringing out the original taste. No artificial additives are used, making it healthier and more natural.

Since the broth is relatively light in flavor, the generous sprinkling of scallions adds a nice touch. The scallions aren’t overly pungent, and when eaten with the beef noodles, they bring a refreshing contrast.

The noodles are cooked to perfection—not too mushy or too hard. They have a Q texture that invites a few extra chews, and after soaking up the broth, they become even smoother and tastier.

Tendon-Beef Noodles – $180
If you love that half-tendon, half-beef texture, you definitely can’t miss this. The meat is tender yet interspersed with soft, Q-textured tendons, creating a wonderfully layered bite.

I originally thought the beef tendons would require a lot of chewing, but they turned out to have a perfectly Q texture that snaps apart with each bite. I bet they’re simmered for a long time to achieve that perfect doneness.

Of course, you still get the original beef shank as well—so you get to enjoy both textures in one bowl, which is incredibly satisfying.

Since the flavor is on the lighter side and not spicy, if you’re not used to that, you can add the owner’s highly recommended special chili sauce. It’s not overwhelmingly spicy, and its unique flavor blends perfectly with the beef noodles—it’s truly a great match.

If you’re in Yilan and have the time, do swing by to try these uniquely flavored beef noodles. The clear-braising method allows you to enjoy the original taste of the beef more fully. This is the kind of place only locals know about, especially since it’s only open for such a short time. It’s clear the owners prioritize health over profit, and I highly recommend it to fellow beef noodle lovers.
