Tokyo hits 31-year low temperature; travelers advised to stay warm

On the 19th, Tokyo recorded its lowest October temperature in 31 years, with the mercury dropping below 10 degrees. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, due to the lingering stationary front, the Kanto region will experience rainfall and falling temperatures. Tokyo saw a morning low of 9.9 degrees, marking the lowest mid-October temperature since 1986. This cold snap could be the chilliest of this autumn.

In addition to Tokyo, areas such as Chiba Prefecture and Kanagawa Prefecture also recorded lows of 9.8 degrees, while Hokkaido’s Kushiro City saw its first snowfall a month earlier than usual, making it the first place in Japan to get snow. Travelers heading to Japan are reminded to dress warmly.
