Typhoon Lan (international name: LAN) has intensified into a severe typhoon and is moving toward southern Japan. As it nears, its strong peripheral winds have caused heavy rainfall in the Kanto region, Kii Peninsula, and Shikoku. In Chiba Prefecture’s Tōshō town, rainfall reached 33 mm within just one hour on the afternoon of the 22nd. As the typhoon draws closer, hourly rainfall in affected areas is expected to reach 50–70 mm, with some regions seeing up to 100 mm. Japanese authorities have urged the public to avoid non-essential outings to ensure safety.

Due to the strong airflow associated with the typhoon’s northward movement, Hokkaido in northern Japan is also experiencing strong winds and heavy snow.
