Abandoned Old Street Transformed into a New Attraction at Dongmenlingtan Street Creative Base

Longtan’s development is closely tied to “Lingtan.” In the early days, the Taoyuan Plateau suffered from water scarcity, and it was only after the development of Lingtan that people began to settle here—marking the beginning of Longtan’s history. Nowadays, the youth of Longtan are using “Lingtan” as inspiration to transform an abandoned market, revitalizing and establishing Lingtan Street Creative Base as a new attraction that offers a refreshing change.

The local youth of Longtan have established the “Hard Neck Market,” breathing new energy into the old street. The creative base hosts 47 stalls, including bookstores, cafés, story houses, pottery shops, organic food stores, and various other cultural and creative businesses. Lingtan Street not only provides young people with entrepreneurial opportunities but also revives what was once an old street headed for abandonment. It is believed that before long, this area could become Longtan’s very own “Dongmen.”

In addition, various construction projects are underway in the Longtan area. For instance, at Longtan Pond, plans are being made for renovations such as reconstructing the suspension bridge, upgrading the riverbanks, and improving water quality—all aimed at creating a high-quality waterside recreational space.
