Free trial rides on Kaohsiung Light Rail end—don’t miss the half-price period

The circular Kaohsiung Light Rail has completed its first phase and is now fully operational after generating huge anticipation last year. The free trial rides offered to encourage public use will end in October, with fares resuming in November. The first two months after that will feature half-price tickets.

The Kaohsiung Light Rail is being constructed in two phases. Phase one, from C1 to C14 stations, spans 8.7 kilometers and passes through Dream Mall (C5), the Software and Trade Park (C6, 7), the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center (C8), and ends at Hamasen Station (C14). During the October trial period, passengers could ride for free to experience the service. The flat fare for the entire line was NT$30, but from November to December, it will be offered at a half-price of NT$15. Using an EasyCard will grant additional discounts. Full fares are expected to be implemented starting next year.

Phase one of the light rail route runs from the Qianzhen District through the Gushan District. Construction on Phase two, from C15 to C37 stations, has already begun, with completion estimated for 2019.
