Green Beauty Library and Museum: New Photogenic Spot – Architect Kazuyo Sejima Confirmed to Design Taichung Landmark

Renowned Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima will design the Green Beauty Library and Museum in Taichung. This will not only be her first project in Taiwan but also another masterpiece by a celebrated Japanese designer in the city, following the Taichung National Theater designed by architect Toyo Ito. The Green Beauty Library and Museum combines a public library and an art museum. Upon completion, it will become a new cultural and artistic landmark in the Greater Taichung area. The project is scheduled for interior decoration and exhibition planning in 2019, with official opening planned for 2020.

The Green Beauty Library and Museum in Taichung will function as both a municipal library and an art museum. It is planned to have two underground levels and seven above-ground floors, integrating with the surrounding forest park landscape. In addition to offering public services such as reading, exhibitions, and guided tours, the facility will also support policies related to reading promotion, art development, and research, while coordinating and integrating library and art exhibition resources across all districts of the city.

The Green Beauty Library and Museum is located in the north end of Qingcuiyuan within the Waterfront Smart City, adjacent to the International Convention and Exhibition Center and supported by a well-connected transit hub. It aims to create a fully functional cultural and artistic space that embodies “life, ecology, and production,” making it a popular destination for visitors.

Kazuyo Sejima is a laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the highest honor in architecture, and remains the only living female recipient. Her design style emphasizes transparency and fluidity, transforming cold, rigid structures into bright, comfortable spaces. Her notable works include the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, the Sumida Hokusai Museum, the Inujima House Project, and the Dior Omotesando flagship store.
