Christmas is just around the corner, and many people have already started planning where to spend the romantic holiday. Kobe’s Meriken Park will feature the world’s tallest Christmas tree as part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Kobe’s port opening. The “Aim for the World’s Tallest Christmas Tree Project” held its tree-planting ceremony on November 17 and will host an opening ceremony on December 2.

The Christmas tree stands 30 meters tall. It is a giant cedar that is even larger than the one at New York’s Rockefeller Center. The tree was transported to Kobe’s Meriken Park and erected, then moved via special vehicles and large ships from Toyama Port, traveling through the Sea of Japan and Seto Inland Sea to reach Kobe.

From the opening ceremony until December 26, Meriken Park will host festive events including a Christmas market, dining options, and concerts. Travelers planning to visit Kansai in December should not miss this magnificent, world’s tallest Christmas tree.
