The Michelin Guide is hailed as the bible of the food world and serves as one of the go-to references for finding top-notch restaurants. The 2018 Michelin Guide to Tokyo was officially released on December 1, and the list of restaurants featured in the guide has also been announced. A total of 234 restaurants have received stars, including 12 three-star, 56 two-star (a record high), and 166 one-star establishments, along with 278 recommended restaurants.

The three-star restaurants remain the same as last year, with sushi master Jiro Ono’s Sukiyabashi Jiro Honten, Kundan, Joël Robuchon, and Quintessence having held their three-star status for 11 consecutive years. Five new restaurants have entered the two-star list. Additionally, some of this year’s starred restaurants can also be found in Taiwan, including the three-star Ryugin and the one-star Japanese Soba Noodles Tsuta.
