More beautiful than a dream — the romantic Arashiyama Lantern Path is off the charts

Each year, Kyoto’s winter spectacle, the “Kyoto Arashiyama Lantern Path,” is held from December 8 to December 17. When night falls, the bamboo groves, riversides, and temples in the Sagano-Arashiyama area are lit up by brilliant lights, offering a completely different charm compared to the scenic beauty of the daytime, attracting large numbers of visitors who come to admire the nighttime views.

“Path of Light and Flowers”
The uniquely Japanese and colorful garden lanterns of “Light in Shadow,” along with various ikebana flower arrangements under “Flowers in Emotion,” are vividly displayed along the approximately 5 km walking path, making it impossible not to want to stroll down this road.

Area around Togetsukyo Bridge
The area around Togetsukyo Bridge and the mountain-foot waterside is brightly lit, showcasing the majestic and beautiful natural landscape of the evening.

Bamboo Grove Path area
From Nyoigatake Shrine to Okochi-Sanso Villa, the bamboo groves on both sides of all walking paths are brilliantly illuminated, adding an even more enchanting touch to the captivating evening.

Ikebana Walking Path
With the cooperation of the Kyoto Ikebana Association, displays are set up at several locations along the Path of Light and Flowers. Large vases showcase a rich variety of ikebana flower arrangements in diverse forms.
