Heron soaring over vast green fields, the memories of marble soda and rice tea — these were the simple joys of Taiwan’s early days. But with the passage of time and the rise of skyscrapers, those scenes have long vanished. To help travelers revisit the past, the Tiancheng Hotel Group has created “Tiancheng Cultural Travel - Huixing Trip” in the bustling Taichung commercial district. Inspired by the early 1980s, the property embraces a retro vibe, taking guests on a time-travel journey back to the golden age.

One thing you’ll definitely notice at Tiancheng Cultural Travel is “Jiubi” — its presence is felt everywhere, from the large landmark at the entrance to the room decor. It’s a heron and also the hotel’s mascot. Herons are one of Taichung’s iconic migratory birds, known for their seasonal mass migrations to the city. This adorable Jiubi, sporting blue-and-white shorts, a red cap, and holding a small fish, symbolizes Taichung’s agricultural heritage.

The hotel blends greenery with the warm ambiance of wood, featuring a total of 100 rooms. Designed with sleek gray and white tones and floor-to-ceiling windows offering expansive views, the rooms are bright and comfortable, with treetops and cityscapes seamlessly integrating into the architecture. Upon entering the lobby, a retro bicycle at the entrance feels like stepping onto a time machine, while sipping on traditional rice tea powder is like traveling back to the previous generation. Beyond the retro lobby, the rooms are also filled with charming details — each one includes a compact “wooden pinball machine,” incorporating local night market elements for a fun, nostalgic touch.

One highlight of the hotel that you absolutely must not miss is the rooftop “Starry Corridor.” With a starry night sky and dazzling city views, it feels like stepping into a 70s retro bar. From 7–9 PM every evening, enjoy all-you-can-drink beer, a wide array of classic candies, and unlimited drinks like Mekhong and marble soda available anytime. The retro space also offers free access to facilities like racing games, arcade machines, and darts, ensuring a joyful night filled with laughter as you reminisce about the good old days.
