Men and women have very different hotel preferences — convenience in transportation is the common ground

When couples or spouses travel abroad, they may have different opinions about the same hotel. Rakuten Travel found that when choosing hotels, both Japanese men and women value convenient transportation. However, for women, the most important factors are clean bathroom facilities, bath amenities, and the hotel’s interior design, while men generally feel that having an onsen (hot spring bath) is sufficient, as the activities outside the hotel are the main focus.

When traveling alone, Japanese men tend to choose hotels that are conveniently located for exploring local attractions and feature comfortable hot spring baths where they can relax both body and mind. According to a Rakuten Travel survey, the top three hotels Japanese men choose for solo trips are Kyoto’s Kyoyumoto Hatoya Zuifuko, Fukui Prefecture’s Shikibu Onsen Tsurarito, and Hyogo Prefecture’s Amanohashidate Yunokura. These hotels share the common features of spacious public baths that help wash away the fatigue of a day’s travel, along with opportunities to enjoy beautiful outdoor night views, providing both physical and mental relaxation.
