Taiwan’s Longest Suspension Bridge “Taiping Cloud Ladder” to Open in September; Night View Unveiled for a Sneak Peek!

Chiayi’s Meishan District has built Taiwan’s longest suspension bridge, the “Taiping Cloud Ladder.” Recently, images of its near-completion were revealed, with operations expected to start in September. Taiwanese photographer Hong Nianhong shared photos of the Taiping Cloud Ladder at night on Facebook. Under the tranquil night sky, the bridge is surrounded by misty clouds in the distance, resembling a fairyland—giving a glimpse of how stunning the view will be when standing on the bridge itself.

The Taiping Cloud Ladder in Chiayi breaks the 262-meter record of Pingtung’s Glass Suspension Bridge, claiming the title of Taiwan’s longest at 281 meters. It is expected to be completed in July, with trial operation times and ticket prices recently announced. Operations are set to begin in September, with the highest ticket price set at NT$150.

The Taiping Cloud Ladder is 281 meters long and sits at an altitude of about 1,000 meters, with a maximum load capacity of 500 people. The bridge spans from Meishan’s Taiping Village’s Wangfeng Platform across the Sanyuan Rainbow Waterfall to Guishan, allowing visitors to overlook the scenery of Chiayi and enjoy views of the sea of clouds and the Meishan 36 Curves. The bridge is expected to be fully completed in July.

According to plans by the Alishan National Scenic Area Administration, the Taiping Cloud Ladder is expected to open in September. To ensure sustainable management of the bridge—rather than just a short-lived tourist craze—the administration plans to implement a reservation system and charge an entrance fee, with a maximum of NT$150. Tour guides will also be available to introduce the Taiping Cloud Ladder and surrounding attractions, helping visitors better appreciate the local beauty.
