Feast on Tofu Dishes at Taoyuan Banquet – Just NT$199 per Person

The Daxi Township, honored as one of Taiwan’s Top 10 Scenic Small Towns, has gathered local tofu producers this year to host an expanded Tofu Carnival. On December 1st, they will launch the limited-edition “Taoyuan Banquet,” featuring 250 seats of local specialty cuisine, with registration open from now until the 28th (or until full). For just NT$199 per person, you can enjoy 10 unique creative tofu dishes found nowhere else in Taiwan. Additionally, you could win big prizes such as an HTC smartphone or a BenQ tablet.

The Guan Gong worshipped at Daxi’s Puji Temple is a spiritual center for locals. Every year during the birthday celebrations and parade for the God of War, the streets come alive with excitement, attracting over 200 performance troupes competing for attention and packing the town to the brim—creating a religious spectacle known as “Guan Gong in the North, Mazu in the South.” In response, the Industrial Development Bureau of Taoyuan County Government collaborated with Xiyou Xianyou Restaurant to develop a series of signature dishes themed around Guan Gong’s bravery and righteousness, forming the “Taoyuan Banquet.” This includes 10 dishes: “Guan Di’s Iron Arm,” “Guan Gong vs. the Yellow Robe,” “Thousand Strands of Beard,” “Red Hare Tofu,” “Milky Aroma Vegetables,” “Steamed Fresh Fish with Pickled Mustard Greens,” “Health-Soup,” and more. Not only do diners rave about them, but many media outlets—including electronic and print newspapers—have also covered the event.

In addition to the “Taoyuan Banquet,” this year’s Tofu Carnival will also feature award-winning vendors selected by Chef Ah Ji from the “2012 Taoyuan County Tofu Cuisine Competition,” offering free tastings of their prize-winning dishes. Moreover, the Taoyuan County Government has invited local tofu producers to prepare thousands of exquisite and healthy products. Visitors who spend NT$200 or more at the event can immediately enter a lucky draw for gifts and participate in a raffle.
