After the beginning of spring, cherry blossoms in many parts of Taiwan have also started to bloom. Have you planned a short spring trip to enjoy the flowers? Japan has recently released its “cherry blossom front forecast,” with cities such as Fukuoka in Kyushu and Nagoya in the Chubu and Hokuriku regions expected to see blossoms by the end of March. Travelers planning an overseas cherry blossom trip may want to check out this update and catch the best viewing period.

According to Japan’s cherry blossom information network, more locations than in previous years are expected to see blossoms this year (2013), but they will bloom later due to the prolonged cold wave this winter. The extended period of cold air caused the cherry buds to enter a long “dormancy period.” It won’t be until between February and March that the weather warms up enough, ushering in the cherry blossom season. It is predicted that cherry blossom viewing can begin across Japan from March 23.
