Construction Begins on Sunset Boulevard’s Meishan Section to Create a Bird-Watching Haven

Hsinchu City’s Xiangshan Wetland boasts rich ecological resources. On the 29th, the city government launched the “Sunset Boulevard (Meishan Section) Landscape Revitalization Project,” which will widen the old road in front of the Meishan Security Checkpoint, create a new entrance image, and establish an ecological bird island outside the dike of Sunset Boulevard to develop a bird-watching sanctuary.

Mayor Lin Chih-chien stated that the city government previously developed “Sunset Boulevard” along a 600-meter dike between the Meishan Security Checkpoint and the Scenic Coast, where the beautiful sunset and sea views have attracted young people and families. This landscape revitalization project for the Meishan Section will further reorganize the old pathway in front of the Meishan Security Checkpoint to enhance visibility and plan an ecological bird island 20 meters from the seawall, measuring 60 meters long and 7 meters wide. The bird island will be constructed using natural oyster shells to create a bird-watching haven, allowing visitors to capture the most beautiful moments without disturbing the ecology.

In addition, the natural bird island next to the crab-watching trail will be upgraded using eco-friendly methods, featuring oyster shell structures to highlight the wetland ecology—this being a highlight of the project. Meanwhile, the entire Meishan Section of Sunset Boulevard will be reinforced with stones and beautified, making the area in front of the Meishan Security Checkpoint and the crab-watching trail more natural and comfortable. It is expected to attract large crowds and is highly anticipated.

He invites people across the nation to join him this summer, to ride bicycles and visit “Hsinchu’s Back Mountain” with friends, exploring the crab-watching trail, the ecological bird island, and the transformed Meishan Security Checkpoint along the way.
