The New Taipei City Government recommends a secret spot to welcome the first light of 2018: the large platform at Gongliao Magang Fishing Port. Witness the first sunrise of the new year, and after enjoying the spectacular dawn, stay for an exciting one-night trip the next day.

Magang Fishing Port is located in Fulian Village, Gongliao District, New Taipei City, near the San Diego Cape Lighthouse. It is the easternmost fishing port on Taiwan’s main island. On the Magang platform within the fishing port, you can enjoy the sea view and wait quietly for the first dawn of 2018. As the first light breaks, the beautiful scenery of Magang unfolds before your eyes. Next to the fishing port, you can also gaze at the richly biodiverse Magang intertidal zone, also known as the Devil’s Washboard!

In winter, the Devil’s Washboard is covered with lush green sea lettuce and green algae, resembling a natural green carpet. Against the blue seawater, it looks even more vibrant and spectacular. The Magang fishing village also features quaint century-old houses, and you might spot uniquely charming cats hiding in the alleys — it's like a game of hide-and-seek, truly adorable.

There’s a café in Magang Fishing Village that claims to be the easternmost in all of Taiwan, exuding the aroma of coffee throughout the village. The owners of No. 27 Magang Street Café fell in love with Magang, bought a century-old stone house, and turned it into a café. Here, you can order a cup of hand-brewed single-origin coffee paired with the owner’s special garlic-infused sesame oil egg drop rice to warm up. Spend a relaxing afternoon in the café, or follow the Magang Fishing Village guide map designed by the owner on the wall to explore the village’s warm hospitality.

Li Wen, Director of the Agriculture Bureau, said that Magang is the easternmost point of Taiwan’s main island, home to the easternmost fishing port and fishing village. Strolling through this peaceful fishing village away from the hustle and bustle, you can breathe in the old-world charm of its century-old houses, relax while admiring the scenery along the way, gaze at the endless ocean ahead, sip coffee, and appreciate the simple and rustic vibes of Magang Fishing Village.
