International Orchid Exhibition Opens: The Charm of Taiwan’s Renowned Orchids in Bloom

The 2013 Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition opened with a flourish on the morning of March 8 at the Bai-Pi Orchid Biotech Park. On that day, orchid breeders and distinguished guests from both home and abroad gathered to celebrate, with Vice President Wu Den-yih and Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te invited to strike the gong, officially launching the Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition.

This year’s exhibition is themed “Bloom - The Power of Orchids. Radiant Splendor. Endless Wonder.” The venue is divided into seven major zones, conceptualized around a seven-day cycle to allow visitors to experience the joy and emotion of flowers blooming in different seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Starting from orchids in their “natural” habitat, the journey ends in the “living” environment, allowing everyone to appreciate the beauty of orchids in everyday life, while also reflecting various aspects of industry development.

To encourage Taiwan’s orchid industry to shine brilliantly on the international stage and enhance its competitiveness, the exhibition has invited orchid breeders and vendors from around the world to participate. With the influence of diverse cultural backgrounds, the exhibition offers greatly enhanced visual appeal.

In previous years, the Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors. This year, to make it easier for the public to reach the venue, the Tainan City Government launched an “Orchid-Painted Bus” and planned two free shuttle bus routes, allowing visitors to travel from Chiayi High-Speed Rail Station or Xinying Railway Station to the exhibition venue. This also supports the goal of building a low-carbon city.

In addition, the organizers specifically reminded the public that ticket prices have been adjusted this year. Weekday regular tickets are NT$150, and citizen tickets are NT$100; weekend prices are NT$200 for regular tickets and NT$150 for citizen tickets. During the exhibition period, those with public transportation tickets (excluding tour buses) such as high-speed rail, Taiwan Railways, or intercity buses can purchase discounted tickets for NT$100 on weekdays and NT$150 on weekends. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of these options.
