Flower Viewing / "May Snow" Falls Early: Luye Tung Blossoms Are Blooming Quietly

Commonly known as "May Snow," tung blossoms have quietly bloomed this week in Luye, Taitung. Originally expected to flourish near the end of spring, these flowers are reported to have bloomed earlier than usual, making them the earliest tung blossoms in the country.

The typical blooming period for tung blossoms is from March to May each year, with late April being the peak. Luyan Township in Taitung County has dense plantings of tung trees along what is known as the "Tung Blossom Avenue." Due to the recent warm weather in Taitung, flowers along the avenue have started to bloom successively, welcoming visitors earlier than expected. The projected peak blooming period this year is from the end of March to early April.

The Yong’an Community Development Association in Luye Township, Taitung County, is coordinating with the Tung Blossom Festival. From March 25 to April 14, there will be tea tasting events every Saturday, and the 2626 Market will be held on the second Saturday of each month, inviting the public to come to Luye Township, Taitung, for tea and market fun.
