The “2013 Zhuzihu Calla Lily Season – Love Around the Corner” opened at 10:30 AM today (March 22). To allow visitors to immerse themselves in the romantic ambiance created by the calla lilies of Zhuzihu, a landscape floral design competition was held across various farms. Additionally, on the opening day, Mayor Hau Lung-pin led 20 couples to the fields to experience the joy of flower picking, letting the calla lilies of Zhuzihu bear witness to their love.

This year’s (2013) Zhuzihu Calla Lily Season is themed “Love Around the Corner.” To allow visitors to immerse themselves in the romantic ambiance created by the calla lilies of Zhuzihu, a landscape floral design competition was held across various farms. Among them, Mingyangpu Leisure Farm won first place with its “Sleeping Beauty” story backdrop — a cypress wood Sleeping Beauty whose eyes open when the prince kisses her, combining interactivity with aesthetics. The use of natural camphorwood fragrance creates the atmosphere of a lady’s boudoir, and the surrounding area features story characters such as witches and fire-breathing dragons, vivid, lively, and full of creativity, which won unanimous praise from the judges for its exquisite design.

Miaobang Garden, on the other hand, built its display around the “Cinderella” story theme, using a clock made from a discarded electric fan and a “giant” floral glass slipper that were quite eye-catching. The romantic pumpkin carriage, paired with a mouse cart made from dried loofahs, clearly expressed the story theme, earning it second place.

The Datitian Ecological Flower Farm used “Rapunzel” to create a golden long hair for the “Tower Princess,” which hangs down from a tall tower for the prince to climb up. Cherry blossom trees nearby were adorned with sky lanterns, reminiscent of the annual lantern-releasing tradition in the animated film where the king makes wishes — this display also earned second place.

In addition, there are 13 other well-known love story calla lily displays, including “Pocahontas,” “The Little Mermaid,” “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl,” “Titanic,” and “The Butterfly Lovers (Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai).” Visitors are welcome to go to Zhuzihu to “meet the calla lilies” and enjoy the atmosphere of love.
