Spring Music Festival Countdown Begins – “No Rooms Available” in Kenting

The grandest early spring music festival, the “2013 Kenting Spring Music Festival,” will take place from April 3 to 7 at nine outdoor and indoor venues in Hengchun, Kenting. With less than a week to go, hotels and homestays in the Hengchun area were fully booked over a month ago. Visitors hoping to make a last-minute trip to Kenting during the spring holiday may find it nearly impossible to secure accommodation, as the area is expected to be packed to capacity – even campsite reservations are fully booked.

The 8th edition of the “2013 Spring Scream Music Festival” is about to kick off, and the entire Kenting area is expected to be swarmed with people. Most water sports and peripheral activities will be suspended, and homestays and hotels will be on high alert. Huang Yu-ren, owner of Kenting Oasis Homestay, described the scene during the festival as “the whole Kenting Main Street turning into a giant nightclub,” with bikini-clad girls and muscular guys partying day and night. Travelers planning to visit Kenting during the holiday should prepare themselves mentally.

“Travelers planning to drive to Kenting are better off taking public transport,” Huang added. During the festival, traffic on Kenting Main Street will be extremely congested. Those who have already booked accommodations are advised to take the high-speed rail or buses to Kaohsiung, then transfer to Kenting and rent a scooter or electric bike to avoid parking hassles or getting stuck in traffic. For those unable to rent a scooter but still wanting to join the festival, the organizers also provide free shuttle services to the venue. From 3 PM on April 5 and 6 until 4 AM the next day, a continuous 13-hour shuttle service will operate, transporting 500 passengers per trip.

To help keep Kenting clean, this year’s Spring Scream Festival has also launched a beach cleanup campaign. From noon to 2 PM on April 5 and 6, visitors can pick up eco-friendly garbage bags at Nanwan and Xiaowan. Those who collect a certain amount of trash may also receive a free Spring Scream commemorative T-shirt. Additionally, as spring arrives, wildlife across Kenting becomes more active. When swimming in the sea, besides paying attention to personal safety, be sure not to step on coral or collect shellfish, and always take your trash with you to help preserve this southern paradise of Taiwan in a clean condition.
