Matsu has a traditional industry that has been around for decades – the "hot girls' taxis." In the past, they stirred up strong emotions among many soldiers; but as these former "hot girls" got married and gradually left the business to become "hot moms" at home, in recent years, two "hot girls' taxis" have made a comeback. With the same yellow body, but now featuring long black "eyelashes" above the headlights, locals say these are the new local landmarks unique to Matsu – the "eyelash taxis."

The "eyelash taxis," which only appear on Nangan Island, were specially designed to prevent soldiers from boarding the wrong vehicle. Chen Guizhi, who operates the "eyelash taxis," shared that in Matsu, due to fierce competition among many taxi operators, it's not easy to survive. To secure more regular customers and make the taxis more recognizable, Chen and her daughter came up with the creative idea of adding "eyelashes." Whenever you see a taxi with long, thick eyelashes above the headlights, you know it’s the branded "eyelash taxi fleet" of Chen Guizhi and her daughter.

"When we first started putting on the eyelashes, many others in the industry laughed at us, saying it was strange," recalled Chen Guizhi, who has been running the eyelash taxis for three years. When they first decided to use eyelashes as their logo, many doubted whether it would work. "My daughter and I thought, so what if it’s strange? We just wanted to do it – so we went ahead and did it."

With their unique creativity and ingenuity, Chen Guizhi and her daughter began looking for materials suitable to serve as "eyelashes." In the end, they chose waterproof and heat-resistant rubber, pasting dense eyelashes onto their two family taxis and adding blue rooftop lights. This way, whether it’s day or night, the "eyelash taxis" are easily recognizable.

"Now, many tourists coming to Matsu specifically ask to ride in our taxi," Chen Guizhi said with a smile. Some customers have even brought photos of the eyelash taxis and searched from Beigan all the way to Nangan just to find their taxi. "Now, our taxi just can’t go without the eyelashes – the eyelashes are us." Currently, these two taxis only operate on Nangan Island in Matsu.
