Lihpao Ferris Wheel Light Show: A 150-Second "Flower-Themed" New Year’s Countdown

As one of the two main venues for New Year’s celebrations, Lihpao Resort will feature the Sky Dream Ferris Wheel putting on a dazzling 150-second countdown and New Year’s light show. Designed around the theme of the "2018 Taichung Flower Expo," the show will showcase seven dynamic floral visuals bursting with vitality to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new. It is estimated that 200,000 people will flock to the resort on New Year’s Eve.

Zhu Kang-zhen, Executive Vice President of Lihpao Resort, stated that 2018 is a very important year for Taichung, especially with the highly anticipated World Flora Exposition. With Sunday being New Year’s Eve, Lihpao Resort, as one of the main venues for the evening event, will present the Sky Dream Ferris Wheel light show to treat New Year’s celebrants to a visual feast.

The resort explained that the 150-second countdown and New Year’s light show is designed around the theme of the "2018 Flower Expo." The seven dynamic floral visuals include Taichung’s city flower, the cherry blossom; lilies and anthuriums, which are abundant in Houli; as well as roses, cosmos, sunflowers, purple coneflowers, and butterflies with fluttering wings. Paired with the theme song "Best Day of My Life" by Asian pop group Mayday, the display will burst with vitality to welcome 2018.

Endless New Year’s business opportunities await. Lihpao Resort is capitalizing on the momentum by creating multiple crowd-pulling attractions, including a special afternoon discount of NT$280 for Taichung residents to enter the park after 2 PM, a "Break Through 2017 Night Run Go-Kart" package at the racetrack, limited-edition 500 lucky bags at the outlet mall starting at midnight on January 1, the Fullerton Hotels’ "Lihpao All-Inclusive Holiday" accommodation package, and limited "2018 Light-Seeking Journey" sunrise tickets on the Sky Dream Ferris Wheel. These offerings aim to keep the festive spirit going from New Year’s Eve into January 1.

The resort announced that on January 1, it will launch the Ferris Wheel “2018 Light-Seeking Journey” sunrise experience for the first time, allowing visitors to greet the first rays of 2018 from an altitude of 384 meters. Departure is at 5:45 AM, with a high-capacity six-person-per-car format. The two-round ride offers a unique view of Taichung’s mountain, sea, and urban landscapes. The website has limited 120 reservation slots, with each package sold for NT$699 (original price NT$1,100). The package includes a Ferris Wheel ride ticket, a Starbucks breakfast, a prayer wish card, and other delightful gifts.

In addition, Lihpao Resort is making an even bigger splash by offering a chance to win a million-dollar Audi from December 27 to March 4 of next year. Customers who spend NT$3,000 or more within the resort can enter the draw. The resort reminds the public that New Year’s Eve will see heavy crowds and traffic, so it is recommended to use public transportation. Traffic control will be in place around the venue starting at 4 PM, and visitors are welcome to use the city government’s five free shuttle bus services.
