Eagle-Watching Season is Here! Get Up Close with Eagles at Guanyin Mountain & Witness Migratory Birds of Prey

The annual “Guanyin ‘Watch the Eagles’” event, held at Guanyin Mountain from April to May, will kick off at 10 a.m. on May 4 in front of the plaza at Guanyin Mountain Visitor Center. The event includes eagle-watching eco-guided tours, raptor ecology lectures, a farmers' market, fun challenge and DIY activities, along with added live eagle-watching footage, a cultural tour of Guanyin Mountain, raptor ecology photography and specimen exhibitions, as well as lucky draws and quizzes.

Located at the final stop of the migratory route for birds of prey, Guanyin Mountain has always been a key eagle-watching destination in Taiwan. During last spring’s raptor migration season, as many as 13 species of raptors were observed here. To enhance the immersive experience, this year’s event will feature live footage during the guided eagle-watching tours and present a raptor ecology photography and specimen exhibition at the Guanyin Mountain Visitor Center, allowing visitors to learn about these birds from multiple perspectives. In addition to admiring the eagles, visitors can also explore several hiking trails to enjoy the forest’s refreshing phytoncides. This year, a cultural tour of Guanyin Mountain has been arranged along the Forest Canopy Trail, and participants can join for free simply by registering at the event site—offering a deeper insight into the area’s local culture and a richer appreciation of Guanyin Mountain.

On the opening day, there will also be a wonderful performance by the De-Yin Elementary School String Orchestra and eco-themed challenge stations. Visitors can pick up a challenge sheet at the event information desk and participate in the lucky draw if they collect stamps from four or more challenge zones. Additionally, two Sundays—May 5 and May 12—will feature a rich lineup of Sunday activities, including eagle-watching eco-guided tours, raptor ecology lectures, and a cultural tour of Guanyin Mountain.

To share visitors’ eagle-watching experiences, the North District Office (Beiguan Office) and the Taipei Wild Bird Society have collaborated to launch the “My Intimate Encounter with ‘Eagle Watching’” campaign. From now until May 31, participants can share their eagle-watching insights of no more than 100 words on the official Facebook page of Beiguan. The top 10 entries with the most “likes” will each receive a beautiful small gift.
