Taiwan’s most expensive hotel dim sum: Taipei Marriott’s Abalone Eight-Treasure Fortune Bag Zongzi at NT$2,000 each

As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, many people are likely preparing to shop for zongzi from various brands as gifts. Hotel operators have already launched a variety of gift boxes, but among all the hotels’ zongzi offerings, the Abalone Eight-Treasure Fortune Bag Zongzi from Taipei Marriott Hotel stands out with a single piece priced as high as NT$2,000, making it the most expensive among Taiwan’s hotels.

The Abalone Eight-Treasure Fortune Bag Zongzi uses precious ingredients from around the world and weighs up to 800 grams, equivalent to four triangular zongzi. The outer layer is made from carefully selected Taiwanese black pork stomach, which is cleaned and marinated with scallions, ginger, and Shaoxing wine to infuse flavor. The filling combines glutinous rice with stir-fried Cantonese liver sausage, cured sausage, dried shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, and fried shallot bits, seasoned with oyster sauce and broth. It is then stuffed with South African live abalone, dried scallops, ham, fresh mushrooms, chestnuts, and salted egg, all packed into the pork stomach and deep-fried. Finally, it is wrapped in fragrant bamboo leaves and lotus leaves and steamed in premium broth.

In addition to the Abalone Eight-Treasure Fortune Bag Zongzi, there are also options such as Beef Liver Mushroom Abalone Zongzi, Spicy Pork Rib Zongzi, Lily Salted Egg Yolk Purple Rice Zongzi, and Southeast Asian Prosperity Chicken Zongzi.
