Honey, let’s go for a walk—Christmas lights are lighting up Hsinchu’s moat until 2018!

After your Christmas feast, take a stroll along the city moat. The Hsinchu City Government has illuminated nearly one kilometer of festive lights along the waterway. By day, it's a lush, vibrant waterside park; by night, it transforms into a dazzling river of lights, connecting with the 9-meter Christmas tree at Dongmen City’s Thanksgiving Season to become Taiwan’s most romantic moat. Lately, it has attracted many evening visitors for walks—and it’s become a popular photo spot.

This year, in the spirit of a warm Christmas, Hsinchu City not only set up a Christmas tree at Dongmen City but also illuminated the moat with festive lights. This installation stretches from Lin Sen Road to World Street, covering both banks of the moat with a total length of about 850 meters. Walking along the moat, the blue-white and pink-white lights reflecting off the water create an entirely different ambiance from the daytime—one where you can enjoy a wintery stroll with an international charm right in the city.

Additionally, the city government has upgraded existing street lighting this year, switching to warm yellow-toned lights along the moat for a cozier and more romantic atmosphere. The Christmas lights will remain lit nightly through the Lunar New Year holiday, allowing everyone to soak in the unique festive spirit from now until 2018.

In addition to these holiday-exclusive beautiful lights, the landscape on Fuhou Street and the ongoing renovation of the Long’en Canal are also underway. The waterfront park landscape along the moat will be further enhanced, and in the future, it will connect with Hsinchu Green Boulevard, Cultural Green Corridor, and Dongda Flight Park to form a 4-kilometer “Hsinchu Forest,” creating a pedestrian-friendly city.
