With Christmas approaching, the Taichung City Government showed creativity by installing Taiwan’s first underwater Christmas tree at the popular Liuchuan River scenic spot, along with various stunning landscape art pieces along the revitalized section of the river. Since its opening, nearly 200,000 people have come to admire the display. The underwater Christmas tree will remain on display until December 26, in line with the end of the Christmas season. However, other illuminated artworks such as oversized gift boxes, romantic tulips, rose seas, light corridors under bridges, and colorful heart-shaped trees will continue to be exhibited until March 4 next year. Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy.
According to the Tourism Bureau, this year the city government created Taiwan’s first underwater Christmas tree along the Liuchuan River, standing 9 meters tall. Since it was lit up on December 9, it has become a nationwide focal point, with multiple online social media platforms recommending Liuchuan as a must-visit Christmas spot for photos. The Christmas tree and surrounding artistic light displays have made the entire revitalized section of the river dazzlingly beautiful, adding a strong romantic atmosphere to the nights. In just 17 days, the event attracted close to 200,000 visitors.
As part of this year’s Christmas Carnival series, the “Christmas Market” organized by the Tourism Bureau will conclude on the evening of the 25th, and the underwater Christmas tree will also end the next day (Dec 26). However, the “Creative Landscape Light Exhibition,” organized by the Water Resources Bureau, will continue to be displayed until March 4, 2018. The public is welcome to keep visiting and enjoying the displays.
The “Creative Landscape Light Exhibition” is illuminated daily from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM. During holiday periods such as Christmas, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year’s Eve through the fourth day (February 15–20), and the Lantern Festival (March 2), the lights will stay on until 11:00 PM to continue accompanying the public during the festive season. Due to the fragility of the LED mesh lights and to protect the lighting equipment as well as public safety, the public is reminded to act considerately: take photos only on pedestrian walkways, avoid stepping onto the grass, and also help prevent electrical hazards.
In addition, the city government held performance events for three consecutive days from December 23 to 25 in front of the Fengyuan Yangming Building Plaza, which were warmly welcomed by the public. On the final day, December 25, Taiwanese singer Tsai Chia-Lin will perform live, joining everyone in celebrating Christmas.
