Located in Shulin District, New Taipei City, the former coal-transporting “Shanjia Station” has reopened to the public after being renovated jointly by Taiwan Railways and the New Taipei City Government, showcasing its century-old charm. The New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Bureau has made “Shanjia Station” the focal point of a new tourism concept, connecting it with the Shanjia Railway Park, Weapons Park, Hakka Cultural and Art Museum, local food and crafts, Lujiaoxi Wetland Ecology, the Dahan River left bank cycling path, and mountain trails. This introduces a new travel format, allowing visitors to explore via walking, countryside hiking, cycling with YouBike, dual-rail tours, or by bus, embarking on a “Century-Old Shanjia · Railway Light Trip.”

The “Century-Old Shanjia · Railway Light Trip” features four specially curated thematic travel routes—Railway Nostalgia Tour, Humanities & Ecology Tour, Forest Breathing Mountain Adventure, and Green Cycling Trail Tour. These routes guide travelers to experience the region’s unique historical culture and nostalgic ambiance, natural ecological beauty, as well as offer engaging hands-on experiences through observing traditional craft-making processes. It forms an in-depth, intellectual journey that links the railway heritage of the Shanjia, Shulin, and Yingge areas. A total of 1,800 spots are available, and each participant who signs up for the Shanjia Railway Light Trip will also receive an exclusive limited-edition commemorative towel signed by author Liu Kechang.
