101 Faces of Taipei 101: Xiangshan Voted Best Photo Spot

When it comes to Taipei’s landmarks, everyone will chorus that it’s Taipei 101. Therefore, in collaboration between the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism and Taipei 101, the online photography exhibition “101 Encounters of Taipei with 101” was held. Photography enthusiasts pulled out all the stops to integrate 101 with various scenes, further highlighting the inseparable bond between Taipei and the skyscraper. Even the 101 building standing tall amidst natural scenery was captured in stunning beauty.

The online photography exhibition “101 Encounters of Taipei with 101” officially launched on May 31 on the Taipei Tourism Network. It features a collection of the 101 best Taipei 101 photographs in recent years, including award-winning images from various photography contests and previously unpublished private works from the Taipei City Government’s official photographer. Whether close-ups, distant shots, or creative compositions, every photo is breathtakingly beautiful. The exhibition also revealed the top three most favored photo spots of photographers for capturing Taipei 101: Xiangshan, the front and surrounding areas of Taipei 101, and creatively arranged settings.

At the opening press conference of the photography exhibition, the Department of Information and Tourism also invited photographers to share the stories behind their award-winning works. Jiang Huimei, the 2013 TAIPEI 101 International Photography Competition silver medalist, said: “Taipei 101 is to Taipei what the eye is to a dragon, and I often use my camera’s shutter to ‘dot the eye’ for Taipei.” Pei Qiyu, the gold medal winner of the 2012 Taipei・A Journey Without End Photography Competition, also mentioned that before Taipei 101 was built, the cityscape was not easy to frame. But after the completion of Taipei 101, the city gained a central subject for photography, and the city’s image gradually elevated floor by floor. Though his winning piece “The Beauty Above the Clouds at 101” is undoubtedly gorgeous, even more so beneath the clouds, Taipei reveals its humanity and depth everywhere.

Zhao Xinpeng, Director of the Department of Information and Tourism, stated that Taipei 101 is Taipei’s most iconic landmark, a must-visit attraction for travelers to Taipei, and one of the most beloved spots on the Taipei Tourism Network. Since its completion, it has consistently become a beautiful subject captured by photography enthusiasts. Whenever the Taipei Tourism Network and related social media platforms post photos of Taipei 101, they always receive tremendous responses from netizens and fans. This photography exhibition, held in partnership with Taipei 101, showcases the many different faces of the building. The public can experience the beauty of the skyscraper and feel the charm of the city through 101 works captured by photographers.

Liu Jiahao, Associate Manager of the Corporate Brand Communication Department of Taipei 101, and Lin Tianfu, Chairman of the Chinese Photography Art Exchange Association, also attended the press conference, both giving high praise to the exhibition. Lin Tianfu noted that this online photography exhibition includes award-winning works from the “2013 TAIPEI 101 International Photography Competition” as well as treasured masterpieces from the Taipei City Government’s official photographer over the years. Each piece is unique, showcasing distinct styles, making it a sort of “photo contest” between “photography masters” and “city government photographers.” In one go, you can fully appreciate the beauty of Taipei 101.
