Sweet and sour mulberries for free picking — over 4,000 mulberry trees open to the public in Miaoli

The Tongluo Township Office in Miaoli County announced today (the 5th) that mulberries are now open for public picking Up！Ten years ago, as part of a greening and beautification project, nearly 4,000 mulberry trees were planted locally. Every April and May, the trees are laden with fruit, and the purple-red mulberries are both sweet and tangy — but due to a lack of manpower for harvesting, they’ve decided to let the public enjoy the fun of picking the fruit.

The 4,000 mulberry trees are scattered across township-owned land and green spaces leased from the railway bureau, including near the Big Teapot by old Provincial Highway 13 on the way to Jiuhuashan (around the 38K mark), along the right side of Provincial Highway 119 after crossing the Kejia Bridge, and more. It is recommended that the public head to the mulberry orchard located 50 meters south of the junction between the old and new Provincial Highway 13, on the right side.

In recent years, due to climate change, the harvest season varies each year. This year’s mulberry harvest has already peaked and is nearing its end. Local residents are encouraged to pick any remaining mulberries for home use. Other county residents are advised not to make a special trip as supplies may be limited, but can check online in early April next year for updates.
