Emirates crowned world’s best airline, EVA Air ranks 12th, China Airlines drops to 50th

The international air service survey organization Skytrax announced the results of its 2013 Airline Awards at the Paris Air Show in France on the 18th. “World’s Best Airline” went to Emirates; Taiwan’s EVA Air moved up one spot to 12th, while China Airlines unexpectedly plummeted from 33rd last year to 50th.

This year’s top 10 “World’s Best Airlines” were all from the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Emirates jumped from 8th place last year to 1st, with last year’s champion Qatar Airways pushed down to 2nd, and Singapore Airlines ranking 3rd. Positions 4th to 10th were ANA All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, Garuda Indonesia, Turkish Airlines, and Qantas.

Among domestic airlines, EVA Air ranked 13th last year and moved up slightly to 12th this year, while China Airlines, which was ranked 32nd last year, saw a significant drop to 50th this year, which was rather surprising.

Skytrax also announced other category awards. The top three for “Best Cabin Crew” were Cathay Pacific, Asiana Airlines, and Malaysia Airlines, with EVA Air ranking 4th. In the “Best Airport Services” category, ANA All Nippon Airways was rated the world’s No. 1, and EVA Air came in 8th, also making the global top 10. Additionally, “Best Inflight Entertainment” went to Emirates, and AirAsia received the award for “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline.”
