“Zha Niu” is a new brand launched by the internal startup division of Wang Group, specializing in fried steak. It debuted in July in the Dongcheng district of Taipei and, after several months of operation, is finally expanding beyond Taipei to open locations in Taichung and Tainan. The brand is currently recruiting talent. Friends in central and southern Taiwan who want to enjoy crispy batter coating wrapped around tender, sweet, medium-rare beef no longer need to fly to Japan—they can also try comparing the difference with Japanese-style fried steak.
The first Sudden Cow store has opened in the Eastern District, with 40 seats. The overall style presents a Japanese aesthetic, using a semi-self-service approach where customers order their own meals, so no service charge is applied. Meal prices range from NT$238 to NT$398 for à la carte items, and NT$298 to NT$458 for set meals. Each meal set comes with Koshihikari rice, seasonal fresh vegetables, sugarcane-flavored miso soup, pickles, and dessert.
Apart from the tomahawk pork chop, which is a non-beef option (considering some people don’t eat beef), the other four main meals are wing steak, classic fillet steak, beef cube, and veal ribs, with the veal ribs being limited to just 15 portions per day. In total, there are only five main meal options. The wing steak uses American Prime-grade meat with fine marbling, rich texture, and flavor. It is seared for 90 seconds to achieve a medium-rare doneness, then thinly sliced at 1 cm for easy eating. The classic filet mignon steak uses the highly popular filet cut, flash-fried, still served medium rare to retain the tender texture of the filet.
