Korean budget carrier Eastar Jet embraces childlike fun with whimsical illustrated cabins

With the rise of Hallyu (Korean Wave), many young people looking to fly affordably to Korea for K-pop fan events, iconic filming locations, or famous attractions have surely heard of this low-cost airlineEastar Jet. This Korean budget airline only launched its Taipei route in 2012, but thanks to backpackers and K-pop fans, it quickly gained popularity in Taiwan’s budget airline market. Xu Yuanling, manager of Shin Rui Travel Agency — Eastar Jet’s general agent in Taiwan — said that since the airline’s passengers tend to be younger, the design of its official website adopts a cute style. Its logo is also designed as a personified little plane with big eyes, featuring a simple yet striking red and white color scheme. The flight attendants of Eastar Jet wear white shirts and black pencil skirts, with eye-catching red ties and belts. Inside the cabin, Eastar Jet has also introduced creative touches not commonly seen on other budget airlines. Currently, all eight of its in-service aircraft feature cabins decorated with various styles of illustrations. As soon as passengers board, they can see adorable drawings on the partition walls and seatbacks. Looking up, the cabin ceiling is also adorned with illustrations, creating a delightful and surprising atmosphere. Many travelers, even when flying the same airline round trip, enjoy a unique experience each time thanks to the different illustrations.

Many people at first glance don’t understandwhat “Eastar” means. In fact, it is a phonetic translation of “Eastar,” combining “East” and “Star,” symbolizing the “East Star” and reflecting the airline’s aspiration to become a star of Asia. Xu Yuanling said, “Eastar Jet’s service model is actually no different from that of a regular airline. It even offers free wheelchair booking services at the airport for passengers with mobility issues.”
