Depart from Taichung! 2016 Taiwan Bicycle Festival on-site report!

InTaiwan, cycling is not just a pastime but also a significant industry that makes substantial contributions to the economy and social development. Taichung isTaiwan’s cycling industry hub, integrating manufacturing, technology, engineering, and creativity. This year,Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications Tourism Bureau collaborated with the Taichung City Government to host the “0K TaiwanFun Ride Taichung Bicycle Carnival,” which served as the theme event for this year’sTaiwanBicycle Festival.

0K Taiwanstands for the origin point (0 km), hoping that cycling enthusiasts will use Taichung as the starting point for their island-wide tours. For this event, four cycling routes suitable for riders were designed to allow everyone to experience the joy of cycling in central Taiwan. These routes include Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, and Miaoli. For details, please refer to theofficial website.

What impressed me the most at theTaiwanBicycle Festival was the participation of hand cyclists. They use their hands instead of their feet, yet they can still enjoy the pleasure of cycling. More importantly, such events serve as a demonstration, promoting barrier-free tourism and industry development. Coupled withTaiwan’s advanced hand cycle manufacturing technology, it is believed that more people of different abilities will be able to enjoy this experience in the future.
