Scorching deserts, freezing high mountains, and muggy rainforests—over 139 days, A-Bao set off from Mexico, traversed the entire western United States, and arrived at the Canadian border, covering more than 4,000 kilometers of mountain trails, including one of the most challenging trails in the world—the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).

“The PCT is like a strict teacher. Over these hundred-plus days, it constantly tested us with varied terrains—the over 30-kilometer waterless stretch in Southern California’s desert with temperatures above 40°C, the Sierra snow plateau at 4,000 meters altitude with waist-deep streams, the relentless rain, hail, and snowstorms in Washington’s scenic spots. One challenge after another, we overcame them all. Before reaching the end, the strict teacher turned gentle, as the final 10 kilometers were all gentle downhill slopes, making it easier and allowing me to reflect on the hardships of the past.”
Two years ago, he resolutely quit his job as a journalist, believing that hiking is the best way to get to know oneself. He once spent 56 days hiking 1,303 kilometers around Taiwan, and also ventured into the Himalayas of Nepal. This time, it took him 139 days to travel from Mexico to Canada. What has hiking brought to A-Bao? What challenges did he face along the way? How did he deal with swarms of crazy mosquitoes? How did he bathe on the trail? As a traveler, how can he pursue both “chasing dreams” and “reality”—two seemingly opposing goals—at the same time?

On January 17, A-Bao will appear at our“Mini Travel Culture Festival”to share his unique travel story.
