1. Momotaro Village
Opened in early 2016, Momotaro Village spans approximately 5.8 hectares, which is 29 times larger than Xitou Monster Village. It was founded by director Feng Xinghua, who had long struggled to find suitable filming locations, leading him to invest in creating the village himself. The site recreates scenes from the Japanese folktale of Momotaro, including a Japanese street, shrine, gassho-style village, and even Momotaro’s home — all meticulously replicated. It features rivers, Momotaro’s house known as Peach House, a cherry blossom path, and Kumamoto Castle. Stepping into the village feels like wandering through a Japanese street, and you can also enjoy the unique charm of the legendary tale, making it a perfect spot for family outings and photos.On May 13 and 14, moms only need to say a secret phrase at the ticket booth to enjoy free admission, saving the full ticket price of NT$200.

2. Baodao Times Village 
Established in 2012, Baodao Times Village uses night market culture as the starting point for nostalgic memories, condensing a century of Taiwanese life into what is claimed to be Asia’s largest indoor nostalgic-themed cultural village. It feels like stepping into a time-traveling journey back to the era of your parents, with vintage movie posters, old trains, mosquito cinemas, grocery stores, barbershops, and more all authentically presented. There are even actors in period costumes walking around, and visitors often say it’s almost identical to past daily life scenes.To celebrate Mother’s Day,on both May 13 and 14, women can enjoy free entry into the village by presenting their ID, saving the NT$350 admission fee.

3. Laotanghu Art Village
Located in Xuejia District, Tainan, the retro-style village “Laotanghu Art Village” combines Minnan, Mongolian steppe, and traditional Taiwanese architectural styles. Covering about 3 hectares, the village’s owner, Mr. Kuang, spent over a decade collecting old building materials from demolished houses across the region, reassembling them brick by brick into the village you see today. With thatched roofs and numerous red-brick sanheyuan (traditional three-section compounds), adorned with large red lanterns, the village deliberately retains features of aged dilapidation. Inside the houses, displays include historical stories, artifacts, and folk crafts from earlier times. For those wanting to throw a costume party, period costumes are available for rent (NT$100 per session) — slip into imperial attire and feel like you’ve traveled through different dynasties via a time machine.Mr. Kuang noted that moms will receive a 50% discount on both May 13 and 14, allowing entry for just NT$40.

4. Peeklo Historic Block
This nostalgic spot should be familiar to many locals in Taipei,where you can freely explore all exhibition areas without an admission fee.The classic Chinese architecture, weathered wooden doors, and aged bricks and tiles feel like stepping into a time tunnel, transporting you back decades through the sands of history. Peeklo was the name of the neighborhood in Taipei during the Qing Dynasty, enclosed by Kangding Road, Guangzhou Street, and Kunming Street. It also served as the main thoroughfare connecting Mengjia (today’s Wanhua District) with other local towns. In 1988 (the 77th year of the Republic of China), with land expropriation by the Taipei City Government, restoration and revitalization projects transformed the old street into the historic block you see today. It’s a great place to take your mother to experience the unique charm of old Taipei.
