“A Heartfelt Effort” – 5 Barrier-Free Tourism Model Routes Launched

Travel is now more accessible than ever. The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has introduced five barrier-free tourism model routes, including Fulong, Baisha Bay, Sun Moon Lake, Guguan, and Dapeng Bay. These come with a dedicated accessible tourism webpage and brochure, along with a range of accessible transportation options, aiming to provide a more comprehensive travel experience for people with mobility challenges and senior citizens.

The five barrier-free model routes planned by the Tourism Bureau span from north to south,One-day Tour in Fulong(Northeast Coast & Yilan Coast National Scenic Area),One-day Tour in Baisha Bay(North Coast & Guanyin Mountain National Scenic Area),Sun Moon Lake Land-Water-Air Tour(Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration),Taichung Guguan TourRoute (Sanxia National Scenic Area),Eco-Coastal One-day Tour(Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area).

In addition to the five model routes, the Tourism Bureau also offers accessible versions of general routes, including a 2-day Eastern Coast tour, Yunlin–Chiayi–Tainan route, 2-day Penghu tour, Maolin tour, Huatung Valley tour, Siraya tour, Alishan tour, and a 1-day Matsu tour.

The Tourism Bureau stated that in addition to providing travel routes, it has integrated diverse accessible transportation options such as Taiwan Railways, the MRT, low-floor buses, and accessible taxis. Accessible facilities such as parking spaces, restrooms, ramps, and even barrier-free pathways connecting scenic spots have been made available at various destinations, hoping to enable people with mobility limitations to venture outdoors and explore the beautiful landscapes of Taiwan through diverse itineraries.
